YSL Opens A New Boutique At Vivocity! Come By & ‘Photobooth’ Yourself!

Hey everyone!

Okay, this post isn’t part of the YSL plan because rightfully that’s all wrapped up and done!

Though as of this moment the YSL Giveaway that I’m holding on my Instagram is still on-going and ending on the 9th of August (hurhur, yes, National Day), so pop by and take part if you haven’t!

Anyway…

Meanwhile I’m giving this space a little breather and also allowing those who didn’t manage to check back often in the month of July some time to catch up on all the YSL posts.

I’m also taking this time to sort my thoughts (about upcoming posts) and stuff out – planning what to shoot next, what to feature and talk about and also how to get this space back on that whole ‘random’ track again with all the backlogged features that I’ve amassed during the July period so…

That’s a whole lot of beauty coming your way too but give me a little while to get it all sorted!

For now at least, I wanted to do a quick YSL shout out because they’ve just opened a new YSL boutique over at Vivocity so you west-siders now have a YSL boutique closer to you!

IMG_5219

It’s taken over the space where Make Up Store used to be – unit number #01-02 for reference – so that’s near L’OCCITANE and also on the way towards the bus stop at the front of Vivo.

In some sense it’s a little quiet and tucked away from the bustle of the rest of the mall but it’s still easy to find and easily accessible. The boutique space is a little wider than the ION one so you get to see everything at a glance and also shop comfortably in the compounds of the boutique!

IMG_5220

IMG_5222

The new YSL Autumn 2015 Full Metal collection is now out too so you can give that a look if you’re dropping by! I’m sure it’s also available at ION as well so collection-wise you can give this a look there as well.

IMG_5224

That eyeshadow palette is absolute love and that transparent setting powder, while nondescript and ‘basic’ feels extremely velvety and smooth to the touch. I brought a piece home with me so I’ll be sure to give you a review about it real soon!

IMG_5226

IMG_5227

Long story short, just pop on over and check it out if you happen to be in the area (why wouldn’t you be though, loads of SG50 freebies going on at Sentosa!).

What’s more, they’ve got a cute little photobooth station available instore (till 16th of August) so you can hop in and get yourself a little YSL snap!

IMG_5231

Wrapping it up, happy Jubilee weekends everyone (those in Singapore celebrating the long weekend) and to everyone else, TGIF!

The new YSL boutique is located at #01-02 Vivocity

Thanks for reading!

Wrapping the 30 Days (of YSL) up! Plus Giveaway!

Hello hello!

Wow, now that I’m actually sitting down and wrapping this series up proper with a reflective post, I can’t help but feel a little sentimental about it.

P6120011

Granted it’s only been a 30 Days sort of stint, which even then is quite a period of time when I think about it… Perhaps it’s the amount of prep and thought that I had put into this series in terms of planning what I wanted to talk about, considering the things to feature and time frame to mention them.

These are all small itty bitty things that most can probably just wing it out, I’m sure, but given how erratic and hectic my work schedule has been after New Job, I wanted to be sure I had almost everything in place before it kick started since I know I don’t have the luxury of time to wing it.

DSC03913

Long story short, I really hope that this series was informative for you all thus far and even if some bits of it doesn’t resonate with you now, perhaps it could prove a useful reference if down the road you decide to look into certain YSL products!

P6120026

From my end, I know I definitely had a lot of fun doing this up. Hardworking with some added late nights to ensure pictures are edited and entries all prepped but it’s all well worth it. It’s things like these that seem so daunting initially, because 30 days of non-stop YSL mentions are no joke but it’s one of those things and stints I like to look back upon from time to time and reminisce on.

P6230061

I know I’m sounding so dramatic and emotional about it now but in a way blogging and sharing about beauty is a passion and hobby I enjoy regardless, a hobby I feel I’ve been neglecting with the hustle and bustle of life these days and while it’s impossible to do such stints often given my full-time job and kid / family to tend to, it makes it all the more fulfilling when I put that extra effort and time in for mini projects along the way.

It’s commitment amongst my already commitment-filled everyday, but it’s especially rewarding when it’s all over and done with.

P6240147

Okay, I know I’ve rambled incessantly about nothing in particular but as I said, reflection post. Ha!

So dialing it back to YSL, I know I didn’t manage to cover every aspect of the brand. I swear, I actually had a lot more planned but things don’t always go according to plan and I had to cater for the fact that I wouldn’t have all the time required to do the grand plans that I had in mind.

P6140011

But yes, I think I managed to address some areas of YSL that have gone unsaid (such as skincare), resurfaced some classics (like the Touche Eclat) and also do what I know I do best which is Look Features and Look Books of eye palettes and lip products!

P6120031

Just for the sake of it, here’s a round up of the 20 blog entries (this one not included) that I had put up during the 30 Days of YSL period!

If you’re wondering why it isn’t 30 entries, it’s because some days are dedicated to instagram mentions so I don’t spam this place up too much.

So… Yes that is that.

I guess, this is goodbye somewhat, for the continual YSL mentions at least.

I still have some reviews, mentions and some added things I want to showcase about the brand but never got the time to getting around to it so you’ll definitely see YSL on here still, there’s no doubt about that!

You know me, I love mixing about my makeup for looks so whatever you’ve seen here will show up again and they aren’t just one hit mentions aka, mentioned in one review or one look and then buried away for eternity.

P6210066

As always I only hope I have more time for this space in future because I do have a life update coming your way about a piece of news that’s about time I share. So that’s going to happen shortly but meanwhile, instead of wrapping this up on an overly reflective and sombre mood, I’m throwing up a giveaway to end this in some festivity!

Grey Divider

Giveaway time!

Also, because tomorrow (1st August) is the birthday of the late Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent and while he may not be around anymore, his vision and ideals of YSL Beauty certainly lives on strongly within the brand’s DNA!

I’m giving away 2 pieces of YSL to 2 lucky winners so hop on over to my instagram to take part in the giveaway (closing 9th august and open to those residing in Singapore only)!

P.s. The items are brand new but would be sent without the YSL box since these are press pieces but, again, they are completely new and untouched. I’m just sharing the YSL love since I was recently sent these but already have them in my stash and the kind folks at YSL don’t mind me sharing some love <3

Okay for real, ending statement.

Thanks so much for reading this whole time (the whole of July) and this whole way.

30daysofYSL_Blog

I’ll still be keeping the 30 Days of YSL banner within the sidebar for a commemorative effort and as a easy-to-reference point meanwhile but… Yes, thank you. I hope you all had as much fun reading the entries as I had doing them up :)

YSL x Icyabstract’s 30 Days of YSL!

So here you have it, the cat is finally out of the bagggg!

The big project – okay, maybe not ‘big‘ – rather, the exciting project that I have been hinting and murmuring about in the last few entries is finally here!

30daysofYSL_Blog

Yes, 30 Days of YSL , which also means 30 days of me! Across the span of this blog-space and also my Instagram!

While I had the option of spreading my focus and Instagram more through the days, I wanted to take this time to put up YSL mentions and showcase as much as I can, or rather I know, about the brand and the best way to showcase it all is through blogging!

Granted I will be the first to say that I’m not a walking YSL encyclopedia and I feel a lot of what I know of the brand is recently learnt through interactions with the brand peeps over the last few years.

P6120015

If it hadn’t been for this very intimate meetings and chats with the brand people from YSL, I probably wouldn’t have learnt about the stories, ideas and also purposes behind these products. I would likely be your usual consumer (nothing wrong with that of course) that primarily sees the brand as flashy, high-fashion, incredibly edgy and maybe a little intimidating in that very couture way.

I may not have noticed the intimate details of how YSL’s skincare contains very soothing and skin loving ingredients so people with sensitive skin can embrace the effective active ingredients within and nourish their skin at the same time.

P6120026

I also wouldn’t have known that YSL’s products constantly seek innovation and the brand is continually reinventing themselves. I know much is every brand out there but a lot of what YSL puts out is usually the first, or one of the first, of the market and sometimes a very gutsy venture too.

P6120017

Way back in the day, who would have thought to put high pigment, a rich glossy shine and a lasting staining effect together in a Glossy Stain, right?

P6120011

Pigments were reserved for the creamy mattes and glossiness reserved for sheer and translucent so their ever innovating mindset is so intriguing and I certainly can’t wait to share about it.

P6120020

Of course technicalities aside, because few like reading chunks of words, I’ll also be showcasing what you all want to see and know which is colors, looks, reviews and of course all things visual!

P6120025

I’ll also be putting content up regularly on my Instagram (where I am a little more regular actually but I’m trying to put in a tad more effort!) so you can check over there as well! Follow me on there if you haven’t already ;)

Purple Divider

Okay, I’m going to cut this loooong introductory post short because there’s really no purpose in having it too lengthy.

My point was to have an official kickstart mention to this 30 Days of YSL thingy that I’m doing and properly introduce it incase you start wondering what’s up with me spamming YSL non-stop all of a sudden.

I will admit that 30 Days seems like quite a feat, and it is so I really hope to get it down flat without any hiccups. I’ve even planned my content way ahead but you know me and my erratic schedules. Fingers crossed though!

Meanwhile here are some quick snaps from a makeover I had done by the lovely and incredibly talented YSL Makeup Artist Zona (at the ION boutique).

IMG_3606

IMG_3609

IMG_3620

It was also then that I got to ask a whole truckload of questions and learn about products I was uncertain about, a nice introductory to this campaign and I’ve definitely picked up some tips, tricks and information that I’m excited to share!

P6090010

P6090011

So that’s about it for today, I’m wrapping this up here and saying stay tuned for exciting and non-stop entries to come! :)

Introducing YSL’s Pop Water & Full Metal Shadow (plus Giveaway!)

Hey you guys!

Taking a break from all the MAC spam I’ve been putting out lately and talking about a little upcoming YSL!

Yes, upcoming because I am finally in time to talk about something even before it launches, woots!

IMG_2643

So these little fellas are launching this Friday (22nd May) and where YSL is concerned, you know the drill.

Pieces are limited and stocks run out quick so if you’re spying anything – go get’em!

Though I have some good news and that is, YSL Pop Water Glossy Stains are a permanent addition to YSL’s lip line-up, though select few shades are Limited Editions, so… the best thing to do is still to zoom down if anything catches your eye. Heh.

YSL Full Metal Shadows

Kicking this off, I want to talk about something I had a mixed up first impression of.

IMG_2654

The thing about YSL Singapore is that a lot of times collections reach us pretty late, at least compared to the Western side of the globe.

So, as I was saying…

While browsing western bloggers’ reviews of the YSL Full Metal Shadows, I remember being a little disappointed at how these swatched and looked on those blogs.

IMG_2674

I believe even the thoughts shared were luke-warm. In extreme cases some were even a little dis-satisfactory because we know that price is a crucial considering factor in the Western world (for most, not all) and these are highly priced.

I think over here we’re so acustommed to it because even our drugstore prices are bordering departmental store prices.

Anyway, swayed by my online-impression, I didn’t have much excitement for these, that’s up till the point that I swatched them.

IMG_2660

Whoa boy, was I wrong about them!

These are available in 10 shades but I’ve only got 5 to play with during the preview.

IMG_2663

I’m not sure what went ‘wrong’ with some of the international bloggers but where I’m concerned these swatched with good enough pigmentation, and a nice distribution of glitter and shimmer amidst the colors.

IMG_2666

Everything was nicely melded together in this liquid/molten-like formula. It is as if you’re swatching varying shades of shimmery molten metal. Quite intriguing.

And that’s just them being applied densely.

If you’re all about sheering your shimmers out, these do that really nicely as well and don’t tug or pull on the lids, giving you a good window to pat and blend yet still set a little once the formula is nicely thinned and sheer-ed out.

IMG_2667

I can’t comment on how it wears in our humid climate yet because I’ve not tested them out but so far, these sparkly thingamajigs have certainly caught my eye!

IMG_2671

IMG_2672

I urge you guys to check it out, even if you think sparkles and shimmers are too much for you because the taupes and browns (there’s a pinkish peach too, not pictured here) are extremely wearable and perfect for zesting up a neutral look.

YSL Pop Water Vernis A Levres

Alrightey!

So moving on to something a good number of you would know of or have tried, their Glossy Stains (or also known as Vernis A Levres).

IMG_2658

These Glossy Stains are known for going on watery and cool (unlike the balmy emollience that now-popular high-shine lipsticks impart) – very lightweight – yet also imparting strong pigmentation that grabs and holds, staying and staining through meals or drinks. All that with a perfectly chic glossy shine.

The original line up is really da bomb if you’re looking to combine intense pigmentation with a glossy finish and an incredible staying power, at the expense of it not being moisturizing (but yet not exactly lip moisture-sapping either).

While that ticks a lot of the right boxes for bold lip lovers, YSL has discovered that those looking to dip their feet into the brand’s lip products are often wary and afraid to give the Glossy Stains a go.

Reason being? They are far too intense.

While that is the point of the original Glossy Stains, YSL is a brand that innovates.

So, after noticing this group of people would prefer softer, sheerer and more natural hues (and also the bold loving people who wouldn’t mind a soft rose shade either ways), they’ve decided to roll out the YSL Pop Waters!

IMG_2650

For those who find the original Glossy Stains too daunting or for those who can’t stop adding to their lip supplies ;)

IMG_2649

Available in 12 neutral and natural variations, some of which are Limited Edition (boohoo), I only managed to play around with 8 at the preview.

IMG_2679

Sorry, no names because I didn’t take note and can’t quite match them now, heh.

In the aspect of formula and finish, they’re very similar to the original Glossy Stains. The key difference would be the watered down pigmentation.

While I say watered down, I mean it in a positive way with a beautiful texture and finish that’s unique and difficult to achieve in the makeup realm.

A little bit like how some like to take intense stains and dab it on lightly (instead of wearing them full out) followed by topping it off with a glossy shine for that soft watery rose-bud gradient sort of lip look?

Yes, this is the exact effect you will achieve with the New Pop Waters.

IMG_2684

Here’s an interesting tidbit – the inspiration behind the watery translucence yet still vibrant color effect was actually Gummy Bears!

I find that so adorable and genius at the same time because the idea of something so vibrant and colored but yet translucent with a fluid look does sound like an appealing concept of color to makeup and I’m glad that a brand has finally looked into figuring that out!

While they appear light and soft, some shades do a pretty mean job of staining as well so that original factor of the Glossy Stains still apply!

IMG_2686

Apart from the Pop Waters, there’s actually one more exciting lip release in this collection and that’s a Lip Plumping Glossy Stain (that is colorless).

I’ve given it a go a couple of times and it’s quite nice to use even with the lip plumping factor that often turns people off.

It wasn’t amongst the mix of stuff during the preview but I do have a piece with me so I’ll give it a proper entry of its own in due time!

Purple Divider

Phew!

I think I’ve ranted on too much and for too long! I’ll still delve into a little more information in these products’ individual entries or features so keep a look out for those!

IMG_2657

Anyway!

GIVEAWAY TIME!

Wrapping this up, I think what most of you are most interested in is the giveaway so, yes, I’ve got one for you (those residing in Singapore only – sorry!) and it’s happening over on my Instagram, ending on 24th May.

Do pop by and take part!

Thanks so much for reading this lengthy entry and hope to drop by on here again soon!

The YSL Full Metal Shadow (S$45) and Pop Waters (S$49) will be available from 22nd May 2015 at YSL Counters and Boutiques.

The YSL Full Metal Shadow is Limited Edition while the YSL Pop Water is Permanent, however select shades are Limited Editon.

Upcoming for MAC Summer (And Some Spring) 2015 – MAC is Beauty, Huggable Lips, Pro Longwear Waterproof & More!

Hey everyone!

First of all I do want to apologize for the absence on here as life just got way too busy. To the point that these days I would say I’m a little out of touch with every nitty-gritty release within the beauty realm and only keep tabs on major brand releases because, well, those are a little hard to miss.

Thus, attending these little preview/catchup beauty sessions are really quite liberating. It’s like being in the know once more, catching up with brand peeps I’ve worked with a long time and also playing with makeup all at the same time.

Boy, do I miss that amidst the current work-work-baby-baby sort of lifestyle. I’m losing touch of that frivolous beauty admiring self, a little. Just a little…

But anyway!

We’re not here to talk about me but rather these upcoming MAC Spring/Summer collections so let’s get to it!

Before I go into detail about the upcoming collections I’ll say that these are coming out pretty fast and furious (with one launching later this week and the rest in subsequent weeks) so get ready to prepare your heart and wallet for these!

Unlike before, I don’t have many swatches or detailed snaps of the collections for you and lighting kinda sucks as well but I didn’t have another way around it – sorry guys!

Though wait for my detailed product post about the pieces I’ve gotten from each collection because that would have better lighting, pictures and swatches, I’m sure!

Enough talk, let’s get started with the soonest release first and work our way to the back!

MAC is Beauty –

Available 24th April 2015 at all MAC locations

So, if my facts are right this collection isn’t entirely new-new but considerably so to the International market. If I remember right, the MAC is Beauty Collection was first released in South Korea last year and made its way to the International markets this year.

The release date isn’t of importance but that info does give you some idea on where this collection is coming from, focused on color trends within South Korea, which would explain the soft cutesy pastel approach it takes along with some vibrant pinks because we know Koreans love their pop of lip color, paired with clean and soft luminous skin.

One more thing you might want to know about the collection before I continue is that it is huge.

Like 48 piece collection kind of HUGE.

The entire collection rundown consists of 12 lip colors, 16 Fluidlines, 4 Eyeshadows, 4 Creamsheen Glass, 3 Nail Lacquers, 2 beauty powders as well as an assortment of some brushes, liners, mascaras and such!

I didn’t manage to get shots of everything within the collection, because not all of it was present, so here’s some press visuals for (better) representation of some pieces.

Now, a couple of shots I took during the preview.

P4130024

P4130022

While the collection can be a little overwhelming given how huge it is, I honed in on the lip products (lipsticks, really) with the visually pleasing array of milky soft shades. Though the winners for me would really be the stronger and more vibrant colors like Silly and Diva-ish, those 2 shades are gorgeous!

The Fluidlines are pretty too especially with all the glass pots placed together like this but, unlike the Lipsticks where all the shades are Limited Edition, the Fluidlines are permanent shades.

Nonetheless, it’s a good time to get acquainted with them if you’re always overlooking the Fluidlines!

Huggable Lip Color –

Available 8th May at Sephora, 9th May at Ngee Ann City and Bugis. 15th May at all MAC locations.

Next up on the launch pad is the MAC Huggable Lip Color collection!

Well, the Huggable Lip Color collection is actually launching in the same time frame as the Pro Longwear Waterproof but nevermind that, let me talk about these lippies before we get all about that base (about that base…. okay, I’ll stop).

So, Huggables!

P4130009

I don’t believe that this is the first time MAC is putting out their Huggable range of lip colors, I think the Huggables have been introduced prior but this is my first time giving the range a look and a go.

MAC has a tendency of launching some ‘aside‘ lip collections and I can’t really keep up with those – the Mineralize Rich Lipsticks and Marcel Wander Lipsticks.

So, comparing the Huggables to their usual range of lipstick finishes, I would say these do stand on their own ground where finish and wear is concerned.

P4130011

MAC describes the Huggables as a lasting , glossy finish which I think sums them up loosely but there are more aspects to this semi-sheer and glossy lipstick that seems to hug the lips like a balm once on.

I’ll share more about them in my detailed post to come but for now, I will let you know that I’ve been quite obsessed about these fellas!

P4130012

P4130013

This release is accompanied by 10 lip shades which sees a nice mix of soft neutrals as well as color kickers that range from pink, to reds and oranges. You’ll find a little something for yourself, I’m sure!

There were only 9 colors available during the preview and I have them swatched below but due to their semi-sheer finish I can’t quite put a name to the swatches right now – oops – so the best thing to do is check these out for yourself when they launch!

P4130014

P4130016

While it is launching 15th May islandwide, it will first reach Sephora ION on the 8th of May and Ngee Ann City as well as Bugis on the 9th of May, complete with the Huggable bear pictured above!

Items in this collection:

  • Huggable Lip Color in Bare Hug (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Dramatical (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Soft Talking (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in I’m Game (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Love Feeling (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in I’m In (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Play It Soft (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Glamorized (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Flaming Lips (S$30)
  • Huggable Lip Color in Fashion Force (S$30)

Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation –

Available 8th May at Sephora, 9th May at Ngee Ann City and Bugis. 15th May at all MAC locations.

I’ll be honest and say that the recent MAC foundation releases (fairly recent at least) have got me a little confused because where my MAC foundation knowledge is concerned, it’s still stuck in the early eras when I first got into MAC.

After all, I never got around to learning the A-Zs of their foundations because I was always distracted by collections so frankly, I’m still learning about their new foundation / concealer releases as I go but what’s easy to understand about this is that Pro Longwear Waterproof is like an upgraded more nourishing, lasting, and of course waterproof version of the Pro Longwear.

If you’re a Pro Longwear die-hand fan, fret not because Pro Longwear Waterproof is an add-on to the range and the original version will not be discontinued (…. yet? heh).

P4130003

This foundation could be a little confusing given it’s longwearing (usually suited for oily/combination skin) yet there’s that word ‘nourishing’ within the name which makes one think it’s richer and more suited for dry skin.

Though according to MAC, it’s suppose to be able to fit most skintypes be it if you’re dry, oily, or combination.

Upon swatching the formula on my hands I will say that it goes on rather watery and creamy first and sets quite quick but doesn’t leave that cakey crepe-y look that some heavier and longer wearing foundations do. I can’t speak for wear time and performance yet but I’ll be sure to check back with you all!

P4130002

P4130007

The Pro Longwear Waterproof launch is paired with a Pro Longwear Compact Powder.

Now, as I had said about my limited MAC foundation knowledge, I’munsure about whether this is a new introduction or a re-promote along with this base collection but eitherways, this compact seems to function like a touch up powder though I’m sure you could choose to use it at the start of the day too, your choice.

I don’t have much of an impression of this guy just yet as I only did a quick swatch of it at the preview so I’ll have to go it a go and see what I find!

P4130004

Now, the all important question is how many shades does Pro Longwear Waterproof come in and how many are we bringing in?

Well, this range has 16 shade selections and I believe we will be getting all of them at our counters – yay!

I can’t wait to give the foundation a go and share my thoughts about it soon!

It feels and sounds really promising so far, for the whole full day at work in a cold and dry air condition environment coupled with humid and hot lunch breaks.

Items in this collection:

  • Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation (S$62)
  • Pro Longwear Powder Pressed (S$44)
  • 193 Angled Brush (S$62)
  • 135 Large Flat Brush (S$83)

MAC Wash & Dry –

Availability sometime in June – to be confirmed.

Now, this is a collection I have very little information on because the launch period is still a little ways away (yes, phew finally a little breathing space between collections) in June but I’ve got some visuals on some of the products so I thought I would let you have a look.

I’ll be giving this collection a more detailed look again in May when MAC has more press pieces on hand to show so I’ll likely give you another update to come!

But for now, here’s the group shot!

P4130028

The perfect collection for Summer with all the gold gleams and coral hues, I can already tell that I’ll be so in love with the pieces from this collection just by looking at the lipstick shades, that beautiful highlighter (I think?) and the veluxe pearl eyeshadow palette.

After the introduction to Bao Bao’s Jewels, I’ve come to love MAC’s Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadow finish even if it means living with some sparkly bits of fallout on my cheekbones.

That pearl glint and the hi-shine finish of these shadows are to-die-for!

And did I already mention the summery coral lipstick hues?

P4130029

I think I did… but aren’t those 2 lip colors just so vibrant and fun!

P4130030

P4130031

Well, to be fair I didn’t get to swatching any of these so I’m not sure how they perform on but they do look promising and if anything it’s a collection I’d say to keep your sights on!

I can’t decide how I feel about the whole tie-dye gradient sort of a look to the packaging but it’s fun, bright and tropical enough for the whole Summer theme that I’m just going to let it slide.

So, more information about this hopefully soon!

And there you go!

A really quick rundown of the collections I managed to preview earlier this week! I hope I didn’t end up rambling too much because I haven’t been proof-reading my entries too much these days; I hardly have time to write already!

I have some pieces from the collections mentioned above and I can’t wait to share about them though I know it’s a bit of a challenge to churn like before so I’m not even sure when I can get those posts up but hopefully it wouldn’t be too far away from their launch dates!

Gah, I really do miss spamming this space and you guys with entries but… oh well, life happens!

Eitherways, thanks for sticking around and stay tuned you guys!

New & Upcoming From Shu Uemura – Laque Supreme Swatches, Glow Creator Low-down & That Stunning Shu:palette!

Hello you guys!

I’ve got another rambly little update for you and this time it’s for Shu Uemura.

The preview wasn’t an extensive one and you know how when faced with a whole load of new and upcoming products you just get so focused on learning about it and playing with it that you forget to snap everything?

Yeah… that seems to happen to me quite often during previews. Though nonetheless, I still managed some shots of the new and upcoming stuff to Shu Uemura! I’m pretty excited about these Spring releases and I think it’ll interest some of you too!

I’ll be receiving some pieces from Shu Uemura at a later date so, you know the drill, I’ll have more information and pictures of those pieces to come.

Meanwhile, let’s have a look at this brief and (I’m assuming) rambly overview!

Laque Supreme

Starting with something that is already out, the Laque Supreme, which will be added to Shu Uemura’s permanent line up of lip arsenals.

IMG_9292

Off-hand, before I delve into press information about the product, my first impression and thought of it would be whipped, glossy and creamy all at the same time.

While there are some similar products out there looking to transcend the borders between a lipstick, lipgloss, lip lacquer and all (Dior Fluid Stick, YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush and maybe Lancôme Lip Lover, I’m looking at you), I think there’s a place in the makeup universe for all of hybrid formulas that brands seem to be coming up with.

I want to say that the Laque Supreme immediately reminded me of the YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush, which it sorta does in that mildly whipped consistency, but yet it isn’t the same thing at all.

IMG_9293

IMG_9296

IMG_9297

IMG_9298

Firstly the Laque Supremes are solely made for lip use and while they have that lightweight, creamy colored whipped thing going on, these do actually lay down a pretty mean color stain! Unlike YSL which mostly wipes away, save for the few stronger shades.

IMG_9302

The Laque Supremes are quite intriguing and I’ve only had a go at it on the lips one time so far (swatches on the hands otherwise) and it starts out as this cool, lightweight and part glossy part creamy texture but once on the lips, it actually starts to set and that milky light color does deepen.

Hence I will recommend that you try out the color you hone in on on your lips first before deciding.

IMG_9304

IMG_9309

IMG_9315

IMG_9318

During that one occasion I tried this on, I applied it prior to a meal and allowed it a little while to set before I got started eating and even after, I noticed that the color was still evident on my lips. Though I did try a rather neutral shade so I can’t say to what extent did the color remain untouched but I’ll give you a proper review once I get my pieces!

Though long story short, there’s a good amount of variety across the 15 shades that are launched and while the range is pigmented I believe there are a few pieces (was it 3, or 5?) that are Limited Edition shades. I know one of which is the rich deep wine shade (WN1) but otherwise, I’m not sure of the rest.

I’ll update about this again but if anything, this is currently available so do head down to check it out!

Glow Creators

Next up would be the glow creators!

IMG_9327

I know cream glow products doesn’t interest everyone but I will add that this seems to be the latest makeup trend, not that glow was ever out of trend, with brands putting out fresh glowy looks on the runway this season by not only using targeted highlighters but also mixing in glow boosting creams into foundations and dabbing even more to the high points just before the models hit the stage.

Glow can be risky business but I think these days brands are trying to make glow boosting creams a no brainer to use by allowing the finish to look natural yet the shine to still be dewy and bright!

I think amongst the glow boosting creams I’m a little obsesssed with right now, Shu Uemura’s Glow Creators seem to be of a more obvious and higher shine but it could also be due to me blending out a generous dollop across a small surface on my hand so… we’ll have to see how this performs on the face once I have it!

The Glow Creators will be available in 2 shades – Warm Glow and I can’t quite recall the other… Oops. I believe it’s Cool Glow? But basically the difference in the shades would be the color of the shimmers within with Warm Glow obviously lending a soft golden touch while the Other Glow gives a more porcelain radiant finish (more silver).

IMG_9325

Don’t mind the stains the Laque Supreme had left on my hands…

IMG_9324

Both are equally lovely and I’m sure when used in miniscule amounts across the face you may not see a huge difference in tone but I’m guessing most of us will ultimately reach for Warm Glow (unless you’re fair or mildly pink-toned, the other would be more suited) so that could be the most popular one once this launches!

I can’t wait to try this out on my face and showcase that since the swatches above doesn’t show the product in its full glory since it was blended out on a small surface area hence it looks quite concentrated and a little ‘much’.

Shu:palette – Exquisite Neutral Artist Palette!

Now this last one I am most excited about and also beating myself up a little for as I didn’t get to swatch all the shades involved for a thorough showcase but… if anything, all the shades within this Shu:palette are Permanent so I guess you can go check out the shades in the meanwhile if you’re contemplating it.

IMG_9331

So… if all the shades are permanent, why bother with this palette, right?

Well, because it’s incredibly good value for money given the full-sized shadow pans within and it is also a really well curated neutral palette with a mix of textures, tones and depths. I know its impossible to have us just stick to one neutral palette our whole lives but if somehow you need to make that call, I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets the most picks.

IMG_9343

IMG_9344

IMG_9352

The formula and pigmentation of the shadows are beautiful and quality isn’t compromised at all. The case itself feels sturdy enough, a little thin for my liking, but it looks like it should be able to hold its own should you bring it traveling.

IMG_9342

There’s also a synthetic dual-ended brush within, Shu Uemura’s very first dual-ended brush, which works great with picking up colors as well so that could be handy on the go.

IMG_9333

IMG_9335

In all, I think this palette is one to look out for because of how stunning it is and you can never go wrong with browns, right? I’m pass the point of questioning why we need so many brown / neutral palettes in our lives but somehow we just do, right?

IMG_9354

Sadly this will be Limited Edition though knowing the anticipation for this palette, Shu Uemura will start a reservations list a little closer to launch date (1st March 2015, ideally) but I’ll keep you guys posted!

I know I’m looking forward to get my hands on this, are you?

It will retail for S$160 which works out to be S$10 an eyeshadow and that’s not even considering the brush involved and the palette casing as well. I really think it’s not too bad!

So phew, there you go!

There are a couple more lowdowns that we got through the cozy gathering we had with Shu Uemura but I didn’t snap a picture of said collections so I didn’t bother giving much of a mention here though I’ll have some of those products coming in and I think I’ll save my words for the dedicated entry to come!

I think you’ve read quite a lot here already so I’ll let you go for now!

How’s everyone doing? All packed and set for Chinese New Year already? It feels like its happening so fast I haven’t even had time to properly get my things sorted, eeps!

I’m in the midst of a mini relocation (well, from my office desk of 2 plus years back home) and whatnot so I’m assuming that my blogging timelines are going to get a little delayed due to this change. It’s minor but there’s file transferring to and fro so my computer back at home is going to get a little messy for a bit so blogging may take a back seat meanwhile. And maybe an even further backseat once New Job starts… sigh.

We’ll see how it goes, alright?

Thanks for reading!

Ready Yourself! A Look At MAC’s SS2015 Collections – Cinderella, Toledo, Bao Bao Wan, Julia Petit, Miley Viva Glam & More!

Hey all!

So, I had the great and really overwhelming (but awesomely so) opportunity to preview a whole slew of collections coming soon to MAC Singapore and the best part is that the release date of these aren’t too far off either!

As they say, MAC’s Collections just keep coming!

IMG_9012

The reason I indicate MAC Singapore above is because some collections are already launched in the US (namely Viva Glam Miley I believe, and MAC Toledo) but we haven’t gotten them yet though they’ll be out soon, real soon!

In the meanwhile though, I thought I would just throw all the snapshots I took of that wondrous evening into this one long rambly MAC article. I didn’t manage to snap / swatch every single item across all collections else that would have qualified for individual posts but, my phone was dying so… this ramble overview will just have to do!

I think I have enough snaps and information to give you an idea of what’s to come at least and MAC had sent us back with an assortment of items which I hope to get to featuring soon!

I hate to constantly bring up New Job but given how it’s looming so closely now, just 2 weeks away – or even less, I feel like I’m working against the clock getting all I want to say up before that deadline.

So anyway, here’s a look at the collections! Starting from the soonest to be released to the latest!

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus

Available: 15th February at all MAC Counters

I’ll first say that I’m no fan of Miley, though I’m not sure why I even bother disclaiming that but I’ll admit that when I first caught wind of her collaboration with MAC, I was a little perplexed. I mean, she’s so controversial… right?

But then again MAC has always embraced controversy and ran with it, and also succeed might I add, so I shouldn’t be surprised but Miley or not, I’ll say one thing and that is the Viva Glam Campaign from MAC is a good one and aimed to help a cause – find a cure for AIDS.

If you’ve been into MAC for awhile, you’ll know that all profits from the sales of Viva Glam lipsticks (and glosses) go towards the MAC Aids Fund so… there’s really nothing better than buying a beautiful lipstick for yourself and supporting a cause at the same time.

IMG_9042

So, onto the Miley duo, I’ll come back with more information and swatches about it but I’ll say that while I can’t agree with some of Miley’s entertainment choices, I think we’re on the same page with lip colors gurl~

Miley Cyrus’s Viva Glam lipstick features a vibrant, relatively neutral actually, pink in an Amplified cream finish. The best finish in terms of comfort and pigmentation from MAC, I feel.

The gloss on the other hand is a little glitter bomb featuring a sheer hot pink base color with tons of shimmer thrown in. Absolutely stunning!

As said, I’ll get back to this in another post before I get carried away here so… moving on!

Items in this collection:

  • Viva Glam Lipstick in Miley Cyrus
  • Viva Glam Lipglass in Miley Cyrus

MAC x Cinderella Collection

Available: 26th February at TANGS, 6th March islandwide

Well, I can’t say we weren’t expecting this after hearing about the upcoming Cinderella live action movie and knowing MAC’s past stints and collections or should I say collaboration with Disney films.

IMG_9022

I didn’t manage to capture many shots of the Cinderella collection while at the preview because I think I got a bit distracted by other stuff after shooting these quick snaps but overall I’ll say this collection is quite lovely.

It’s soft and it’s easy to wear overall with a neutral brown palette, beige lip options (lipstick and lipglass) along with some lovely iridescent powders to bring that effortless Disney princess glow to live or maybe the beauty powder for this natural color to the cheeks.

Though there is one thing that you might want to keep a look out for from this collection and its the MAC Studio Eye Gloss, available in 2 color options.

IMG_9020

While the term Eye Gloss sounds highly editorial and a little unfit for us regular people to don even for functions and evenings, I was mildly surprised at how much potential these eye glosses have.

They could actually work!

They’re dense and incredibly sticky, which sounds a little uncomfortable though I can’t say because I did not try it out, but they really stick and hold to the skin once you pat it on! The effect they give is the same glossy, shimmery, editorial sort of lids that glistens as it catches the light.

If anything, if you do have this immense curiosity to don that runway look of glossy shiny eyes then this is where you can start!

Items in this collection:

  • Lipstick in Free As A Butterfly (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Royal Ball (S$33)
  • Lipglass in Happily Ever After (S$33)
  • Lipglass in Glass Slipper (S$33)

MAC Penciled In

Available: 27th February at Tangs, 1st March islandwide

This is a collection that is rather exciting because first of all, it’s all about the lips and the hot favorites from the lips (as far as MAC goes) at that!

Next, this collection is going to be permanent!

IMG_9039

Well, a good part of it is permanent already and I’m talking about the lipsticks featured within. What MAC had gone ahead to do is pick out some of their most popular lip shades and created a matching lipliner (as close as possible) for it, how awesome is that!

IMG_9038

Most times, if you’re an avid lip liner user, you’ll have to go with something nude if you can’t find an exact match or close match to your lipstick, what’s more lip liners usually get forgotten about and it’s not often that you get 3 – 4 tones of reds for lip liners so I think this collection is quite genius.

IMG_9026

IMG_9030

You can now prep your lips with a lip liner that matches the deep purple hued lipstick you’re thinking to use, isn’t that exciting?

Taking it a step further, MAC had also launched complimenting lip glasses for the 3 most popular shades (across the lip color genre) – Ruby Woo, Candy Yum Yum and Heroine.

Excites!

Did I already mention that this is permanent? ;)

Items in this collection (not mentioning lipsticks):

  • Lip Pencil in Edge to Edge (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Fruit Cocktail (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Chic Trick (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Talking Points (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Follow Your Heart (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Nightingale (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Candy Yum Yum (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Cyber World (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Ruby Woo
  • Lip Pencil in Rosy Rim (S$29)
  • Lip Pencil in Heroine (S$29)
  • Lip Glass in Candy Yum Yum (S$30)
  • Lip Glass in Heroine (S$30)
  • Lip Glass in Ruby Woo (S$30)

MAC x Isabel & Ruben Toledo

Available: March islandwide (I’m assuming 1st?)

Well, well, do I even need to explain more about this collection?

If you haven’t heard or seen it then maybe you’ve been a little busy with work, or perhaps just came back from a relaxed holiday away from the internet because the MAC x Toledo collection seems to be all the rage across all beauty blogs (namely the US ones) over the past month.

I’ll do some quick backstory and introductions for the benefit of those who truly do not know / don’t care to know maybe… but the reason for the whacky and graphic prints as well as the rather diversed color selections across this collection is because the Toledo collection is a collaborative work from MAC with both Isabel and Ruben Toledo, a husband and wife design team.

The husband, Ruben, is an artist (from illustrator to sculptor) while Isabel has a keen eye for fashion and colors. Together they work well together and their relationship has a sweet backstory too from the high school sweet heart days.

IMG_9013

So, moving on from that the Isabel & Ruben Toledo collection sees an injection of spunk and color unique to the couple and I enjoy the graphic yet slightly fashion-y imagery of this collection.

IMG_9081

The color options within are really fun too as we see MAC bring back their famed Ombre blushes, of which 2 were wildly popular ones – Azalea Blossom and Ripe Peach.

What I particularly like about the collection is the multiple options of red where the lips are concerned and while some may find that a bit repetitive (why not more color options and less red?), I think it’s an interesting move. What’s more there is a story to it as well, given Isabel’s love for red lip colors.

IMG_9078

IMG_9080

That’s evident from Ruben’s illustration of her on the Toledo packaging as well. Yes, the graphic and abstract profile is his illustration take on his wife Isabel.

IMG_9066

IMG_9075

I have a couple of pieces from this collection to show but it’s really only a miniscule showcase compared to the size of the collection so I do suggest you to head down and swatch up a storm once this collection launches!

The packaging is quite an adorable one with a matte feel (eeks, matte and white, I’m a bit scared though) instead of MAC’s usual glossy cases.

Items in this collection:

  • Eye Palette in Bellgreens (S$75)
  • Eye Palette in Violentwink (S$75)
  • Eye Palette in Moodyblu (S$75)
  • Modern Twist Lash in Vynil Black (S$40)

  • Nail Lacquer in Vixen (S$25)

MAC x Bao Bao Wan

Available: 6th March Ngee Ann City and Robinsons Orchard. 12th March at TANGS Orchard

Firstly, this collection isn’t going to be available islandwide so if you’re interested in checking it out or picking up some pieces, do note the released locations above!

IMG_9031

So… I’m sure most, like me prior, may not have an idea who Bao Bao Wan is. If you do, that’s great, but if not she’s a rather established Jewelry Designer hailing from China and also part socialite as she’s been seen at big name events and such.

After learning about her, I searched her up and will say that her jewelry pieces are quite exquisite and most of which look incredibly premium and up-market so it’s only right that her collaboration with MAC reflects the same with its sleek matte packaging that interestingly enough appears a bronzey-pewter but has soft green reflects within.

IMG_9032

The eyeshadow palette is really a work of art with its gold rims and the sparkly mix of eyeshadows within. I was kindly provided the eyeshadow palette (Bao Bao’s Jewels, no kidding) within my press pack and can’t wait to attempt a look for you guys.

I’m a little worried at the amount of shimmer involved but… when you gotta shine you gotta shine, right? Ha!

IMG_9033

IMG_9037

IMG_9034

The rest of the collection is quite lovely too, from the lipsticks to the polishes and the beauty powder. Overall I think that the assortment within this collection (and the packaging of course) is quite nicely done and definitely worth a look!

Items in this collection:

  • Lipstick in Forbidden Sunrise (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Lavender Jade (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Romantic Breakdown (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Burmese Kiss (S$33)
  • Eyeshadow Palette in Bao Bao’s Jewels (S$75)
  • Beauty Powder in Summer Opal (S$46)
  • Nail Lacquer in Kashmir Blue (S$25)
  • Nail Lacquer in Imperial Green (S$25)
  • Nail Lacquer in Sunset Tourmaline (S$25)

MAC x Julia Petit

Available: 20th March at TANGS Orchard, Sephora, ION Orchard and Ngee Ann City

Phew, okay, last collection that I have on hand to preview right now. Are you guys still with me? I know it’s been quite a long post so let me just run through this one a little and wrap it up!

While I forgot to snap an overview shot for you guys, I did do a little more swatching for this collection (thankfully I did so as I only have a piece to showcase in detail) so I hope the pictures are helpful!

IMG_9050

Another quick introduction, Julia Petit is rather renowned Brazilian Blogger. Again, not someone I am in the know of but I assume if you’re rather into fashion and such you may have heard of her along the way.

IMG_9051

Being a beauty junkie herself, Julia did put a good amount of thought into the collection and products. Instead of going out there with all sorts of colors, Julia wanted her collection to be practical for women of all skintones and across all climates. She’s all about textures, mixing and matching of them as well as transforming a look with it so that’s what you’ll see through her pieces.

IMG_9047

IMG_9048

IMG_9060

IMG_9049

IMG_9062

I think the simplicity and practicality of her ideals does show through and yet it doesn’t compromise entirely on color and offerings too as you can put together a very wearable sweep of colors on the lids, a crisp flick of a liquid liner and bold matte colors on the lips.

IMG_9052

IMG_9055

I think that’s quite a polished yet wearable and practical look and probably what Julia wanted to achieve and share with the world! Or ‘the sisterhood’, as she says.

Items in the collection:

  • Lipstick in Boca (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Petite Red (S$33)
  • Lipstick in Açai (S$33)
  • Lipglass in Purpurine (S$33)
  • Liquidlast Liner in Wet Road (S$34)

So, wow, there you go!

This wraps up my really lengthy and part rambly preview of some MAC collections to come! It’s hardly indepth and it’s just skimming the surface of them all but I figured that if I were to go into too much detail this post would end up being a novel!

As mentioned, I do have some pieces of various collections on hand so I’ll get to talking about them in more detail in upcoming posts and perhaps feature some looks / swatches of them to come!

Thanks for reading!

Tell me, are you excited for any of the collections? What are some products you’re eyeing?

Urban Decay’s TEN 24/7 Glide-On Liner Set Coming To The Blog (& You) Soon!

Okay, so I’m going to pop on this filler post in the meanwhile to give you a heads up of some content that will be coming to my blog real soon! As soon as I can I hope because time is ticking and New Job is gradually approaching!

I hope to at least get up the stuff that I’ve shot / edited and planned to put up before I disappear from here.

Though in the meanwhile I’m also sorting out some pictures from my recent Bali trip. While I didn’t have a mind to document it, I did snap a good amount of pictures so I suppose, there’s no harm in doing some quick write ups about it so… perhaps that’ll be up soon! Over at the travel blog (icywhims) of course but I’ll do some quick highlights on here and link to that so if you’re intrigued about my Bali trip, hold out for that!

So back to this, if you’re an eyeliner fiend that can never get enough of pencil liners and constantly need more, more, moarrrr liners in your stash then keep a look out for my mini Urban Decay TEN 24/7 Liner Set entry coming to you real soon!

I’m quite a liner obsessed person and while I have my reservations with pencil liners (because my eyes are highly problematic and only the strong, liners, will survive), I’ve come to enjoy using the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Liners as they do work for me.

What’s more they come in such an assortment of colors and variations of a staple color (e.g. 4 different sorts of black, how awesome) that frankly speaking if the 24/7 Glide Ons work for you, they’re all you need really.

But of course the fickle makeup lover in us begs to differ… Heh.

So anyway, I’ll be back with more information about this set and while it isn’t new (it launched in the USA last September I think?), if you’d still like to hear my thoughts about it, see swatches of it and also my take on looks with all ten of these then do stay tuned!

I’m hurrying through my arsenal of pictures to post, so bear with me here!

If you’re getting antsy to know when this will hit stores, last I heard was March so you’ve still got some time to think about this a little more or save up for it!

Thanks for reading!

p.s. Incase you’re wondering, the immediate answer to whether I’ve gotten tan or not is no, not exactly. Maybe my legs but otherwise I think I still look like before. Maybe a little less glaring sort of fair but my foundation still fits, ha!

Packing My Sun Protection & I’m Off to Bali!

Hello! So, pardon the relative silence on here this week as I’ve been a little caught up both working and packing because…. Hubs and I are going on an impromptu trip to Bali!

Like, tomorrow… like in less than 10 hours. Woots!

It was a spontaneous decision to go on a quick break before both our New Jobs and it was tricky settling on a time and all of a sudden this weekend looked pretty good so about a week ago we searched up on Bali (it was Bali VS Bangkok but Bali with its novelty prevailed) and got all our flights and hotels sorted with a week to spare to search up on places to spa at and eat at.

So long story short… We’re heading to Bali and while I’m really excited about this sunny holiday I can’t help but feel a little paranoid about it too so I think maybe I went a bit overboard packing sun protection but I thought I would share this sun protection mania I have with you guys and hopefully its helpful for equally maniac people.

P1290002

It’s so ironic how obsessed I am about sun protection (primarily the face) these days when 5-6 years ago I wasn’t even an avid user of sunscreen. I cringe when I recalled the teenage tanning days without a drop of sunscreen and the times I’ve stepped out in the blazing afternoon sun to get errands without a slap of SPF. Eeps.

My paranoia probably started from being more educated and aware of what sun damage / photo-aging can do to the skin and also (my mom is going to kill me for this) observing my mom’s skin as she ages. Given that she had only started wearing sunscreen in recent years, after my constant chiding, to see the effects of prolonged sun damage and pigmentation show up on her skin reminds me of what could happen to mine. Since we have the same genetics in a way, right?

Prevention is better than cure, yes?

So… long story short, I like the idea of basking in the sun but I’ll probably only do it once I’m all loaded up on SPF and suncare, which some people might scoff at because why not just stay in the shade right? I know, it’s so ironic but I guess I like to bake and tan a little when I can without undoing too much of the care and brightening / whitening I’ve given my skin all these years.

Really though, 4 days in the sun can easily undo months and months of skin caring!

P1290005

Leaders Clinic Sensitive Sun Cream SPF 50+ PA+++

Firstly and most obviously, sunscreen for the face! I’ve gone back to using this after I realized that the Biore Aqua one (the blue one) wasn’t enough sun protection for me to wear through the day. Granted yes you need to re-apply sunscreen through the day but sometimes we’re lazy to and if you spend hours in the office, it’s usually not too bad. But back to this, Biore no and Leaders Clinic yes. Hence, I’m back to it.

Lancôme Blanc Miracle Liquid Foundation SPF 50+ PA++

You may think of this as a bit of an overkill, SPF foundation after high SPF product, but most of the time the amount of foundation you use isn’t enough to fully trigger its SPF protection anyway. You need a substantial amount smeared on and often times I don’t need to layer on that much foundation so the thought to bring this along was really just because it felt like a good idea.

If I were going to bring a liquid foundation anyway, why not grab one with a SPF rating of 50 right?

Boots Soltan Once 8 Hour Moisturizing Suncare Lotion (SPF50+ UVA UVB)

Because the sun not only shines on your face but your whole body as well, I figured I would finally give this body lotion packed with SPF some use. I’ve had it awhile but didn’t entirely enjoy using it for Singapore given the mild tact it leaves on the skin but since you need sun protection in Bali, I’m willing to live with a little tact so I don’t get baked. Plus I don’t tan, I usually burn… Or I tan and it peels away immediately, tsk.

Heliocare Ultra Capsules (Oral Sun Protection!)

Now this one is actually the star of all sun protection and I am ever so grateful to Dr Kim (from Aeon Medical – read about all my treatments there here!) for providing me with a bottle of this upon knowing about my trip to Bali! Plus I’m sure he didn’t want me to undo what brightening and skin lightening he has already done for me, heh!

A little more info about this, it’s basically oral sunscreen supplements and meant to be used for days where you’re exposed to prolong sun exposure and want to be protected from all angles. Though of course you can go ahead and take it daily too if you wish but for some S$80 for 30 capsules that would last about a month or so sounds a little pricey off-hand but if you were to average it out, it’s S$2 plus per capsules and I think it’s really not too bad knowing you have full sun protection all around – face and all aspects of your body.

I think bringing this to Bali really puts my mind at ease with the amount of sun exposure we’ll be under! I’ll update on it once I’m back though I don’t know what I can really share about it since sun protection is just that – if nothing happens to your skin, it’s even better!

Heliocare Ultra is available for purchase at Aeon Medical & Aesthetic Centre!

Kiehls Clearly Corrective White Hydrating & Clarifying Treatment Masque

After a day out in the sun, whether you’re all protected with sunscreen or not, the skin will still need a little cooling down nonetheless and there’s nothing better than a facial mask to help with that! What’s more when you’re in Bali, every moment should be a pampering moment right? I’ve been looking for a reason and time to use this Kiehls Whitening / Skin Brightening Mask and there’s no better time than now to nourish and protect the skin at night after a long day of sun exposure!

Aeon Pure White Vitamin C Booster

Not forgetting skincare! If its one area that I always overpack for a night’s stay or in this case, a short holiday, it’s skincare. As long as I’m spending the night, I’ll pack everything from facial wash to toner, serum, eye cream and moisturizer, not sparing a single thing at all. In this case, continuing the skin brightening and rejuvenating thought process, I made sure to bring along Aeon’s Vitamin C Serum!

The active ingredient in this is L’Ascorbic Acid (my favorite skin repairing ingredient for its visible skin bettering / maintaining ability) and that helps heal photo-aging in the skin. There are some rumors about backlash of using L’Ascorbic Acid and then being out in the sun again but its generally unfounded. Amongst all skin brightening and photo-aging preventing ingredients, L’Ascorbic Acid is actually the most stable and does not trigger sun sensitivity. In fact it works well with sunscreen to protect the skin due to its anti-oxidant properties.

I’ve been incorporating this in my skincare routine for awhile now so I’m not actually switching out to it with this trip but I thought I would mention it anyhoo since it’s in line with the whole crazy sun protection / healing aspect. Plus! This doesn’t have that dreaded scent that L’Ascorbic acid typically carries. This uses Grapefruit extract for a more pleasant experience plus Grapefruit is also jam-packed with anti-oxidants!This is available for purchase at Aeon Medical & Aesthetic Centre too, which should be obvious since it’s a house brand. Oops, too rambly, moving on!

Maybelline Baby Lips Lipbalm SPF20

Lastly, now that I’m rambled on about the face and all over, lets not forget the lips! While Heliocare really covers every single aspect of the body already, it’s good to be doubly sure and having a lip balm that also lends SPF isn’t that bad a thing, right? I’ve had this Maybelline Baby Lips for awhile and I do like the US Baby Lips series and figured that one day, this clear balm with SPF will answer a higher calling rather than being one of 3 options (this, a red and a pink) at my desk at work… and I’m right!

Who knew I would go rummaging my stash for a lipbalm with SPF one day, ha!

So phew, that long sun protection ramble aside, of course I packed other things like the remaining steps of my skincare, some makeup to go with and such but at the point of snapping these pictures I wasn’t quite done with the packing process (I am now, of course) so this was all it looked like:

But if you’re interested, maybe I’ll do another ramble on what I brought with me to Bali in terms of makeup, skincare and other miscellaneous beauty products. Of course that’ll be a good time for me to sum up my trip in some pictures as well. Keeping the entry a little bit about Bali and still makeup relevant ;)

So yes, goodbye for now and I’ll see you again shortly!

I may be gone for the week but I’ve got some little mentions coming up during my absence, so stay tuned! I may not be able to spread the word on instagram, being away, but if you’re subscribed to me here (sidebar) you’ll get a notification once new entries pop in!

My ‘7 Deadly Sins’ Where Beauty Is Concerned

Heya!

I felt up for a quick ramble and happened to be reading this ‘7 Deadly Beauty Sins‘ tag from Musings and decided well… it seems easy and for the most part relate-able enough so, why not?

It’s also been awhile since I’ve done tags or since tags were a thing in blogs these days (it seems like the tag craze migrated to instagram…) so I guess it’s quite nice to be a little nostalgic about that trend we used to have.

So anyway!

Greed –

What’s your most expensive beauty item?

Wow, okay… I seriously cannot recall this for the life of me because I’m so bad with numbers and worst at remembering them. You would think I would recall if its something that made a dent in my bank but… yeah my brain is consistent that way.

Though fine, I think something I considered quite a splurge would probably be my Tom Ford quad in Cocoa Mirage or maybe even the Tom Ford Shines in terms of ‘unit price’. Both of which oddly enough are things I haven’t mentioned on here. Though… I’m sure there are more things that break the bank but I can’t recall right now. Maybe it’s the brain’s self-defense mechanism – to forget, heh.

Wrath –

What item do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Hmm, cream blushes maybe?

I love the look of cream blushes on the cheeks, that natural sort of glowy radiance and in some cases that fresh glowy cheek look but for some reason, I just can’t stand cream blush on myself. I can’t stand the hassle of it, as opposed to how quick powder blush is, and also because I always have this need to powder my face down to flawlessness (that isn’t cakey of course) that sometimes it alters that look of freshness and creamy radiance that the cream blush provides. To the point that I think, meh, what the heck I should have saved the time and stuck with a powder blush so… yeah.

Gluttony –

What brand takes up most of your collection?

Well, I can’t say for sure really. I think my collection is rather diversed across brands and also prices – drugstore to highend so… I really can’t put a finger on this.

I do go through brand-phases on here where I ramble on about a particular brand for a bit before moving on but that’s usually due to a launch and it helps with keeping the though process flowing and categorized. I think at least.

Sloth –

What product do you neglect the most due to laziness?

That would be mascara.

I used to be all about mascara and couldn’t live without it because it helps complete the look and opens the eyes up but these days given the slew of things from eye infection / irritation to wearing frames year round now, I’ve stopped reaching for mascaras now. Skipping mascara slowly became a habit and something I chose to do because it felt a whole lot quicker and more fuss free to skip it. I don’t deny its eye opening and fluttery effects but I don’t particularly like the feeling of lashes on frames either.

Pride –

What product gives you the most confidence?

Can I choose 2…? Or maybe even 3? Ha

I feel that confidence is derived from a whole look that you are comfortable with so picking just 1 product alone is tough, unless you have awesome features and amazing skin that is. Of course, by then you probably don’t need makeup to be confident ;)

But, back to the question, I would say it’s a tie between eyebrow stuff, a good base (not necessarily high coverage, just skin-tone evening) and if I can stretch my options, maybe an eyeliner thrown. I think a basic look consisting of these items makes me feel good about myself and polished enough to put my face forward.

Lust –

Which item is top of your beauty wish list?

Wow, how about everything? Heh!

Right now perhaps I would say it’s the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow palettes? Have you seen those things, they’re so pretty and flowy looking while swatching intensely and seemingly smoothly. Of course I don’t need any more shadows and much as I want them I have developed a pretty good sense of self control in recent years, no thanks to the looming financial responsibilities of a family of course, so yes…  while I want, I really don’t need.

Envy –

Which makeup product/look is great on others but not on you?

I’m going to go with ‘look’ here and say that I am mad envious of people with pretty eyes. By that I mean the sort of eye with perfect lid space, double-eyelid spacings and the sort of eye shape that looks great photographed no matter from which angle.

I know my eye shots are quite alright but that’s only because I’ve come to learn how to ‘pose’ my own eyes. If I were being whiny, I would complain that my eyes are a little hooded so sometimes my double eyelids are uneven and when I do certain looks they may seem nice when I’m doing it and raising my brows in a way but once I’m done and return my eyes to ‘normal’ the whole look just seems to sag a bit.

It’s sad but I guess to a certain extent, my concern isn’t too much of a worry and I should be glad that my eyes are at most just a little itty bit iffy to work with. I wish they were like those envious perfect eye shape / lidded girls but ah well, you deal with you’ve got right? ;)

Well I think after that I’m all rambled out now and I hope it was an interesting read for you too!

I’m curious to know what are all your answers to this 7 Deadly Sins tag so if you happen to feel up for a little sharing sesh or ramble, I would love if you did this up and linked back to me so I could have a read!

Lets reinstate that rambly beauty tag sharing community aspect we used to have? Heh

Eitherways, I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for reading!
