A Look At MAC’s Bao Bao Wan Collection (Photos & Swatches)

Hello you guys!

Well, because blogging is now a bit of a irregular affair, I’ve decided… to hell with keeping to the order of things, I’m going to put things up when I can even if it means jumbling about with collection release dates.

Which means Bao Bao Wan is getting mentioned before Cinderella and Toledo, though I still hope to get around to talking about Toledo eventually even though it’s all over the internet because it has been released in the US for awhile now.

So anyway, Bao Bao Wan!

P2130036

The reason this gets bumped up is because I’ve come to really like the pieces I have from the collection which is a seemingly bejewelled and flamboyant eyeshadow palette and a vibrant tangerine lip color in Forbidden Sunrise.

In the scale of MAC collections, I’d say that Bao Bao Wan is considered small. Or maybe a little bit medium.

It’s a nice-sized collection without too much to overwhelm but just enough items within to catch your attention as well.

P2130037

Just to put a personality to the name, Bao Bao Wan (for those who don’t know, me included prior to this) is a Jewellery Designer from China who is also a stylish socialite, or so I’ve heard. Hence it’s no surprise that her collection comes in a beautiful packaging twist!

Instead of MAC’s usual glossy finish, the packaging in Bao Bao Wan’s collection takes on a matte or rather more suede-like finish that isn’t flat in dimension either as it appears like a deep bronzey grey yet flashes green when it hits the light.

P2130039

It’s stunning (to me, at least) and the darkened rose-gold accent running through the products (save the polishes of course) is a nice classy touch. The whole collection has a premium air to it while the prices are still kept very much similar to their usual – polishes and lipsticks are the same price as those in the permanent range.

Grey Divider

So anyway, enough talk about that, lets have a look at the pieces, starting with Bao Bao’s Jewels (S$75)!

P2130048

My first impression of this, and by that I mean before putting my finger to swatch it, was that this is probably a highly impractical eyeshadow palette that looks good and grand but wouldn’t be of much use.

Boy was I so wrong!

P2130052

It looks like it’s all shimmer and glimmer, which isn’t wrong, but underneath all that sparkle there is a decent amount of pigmentation to the colors making them discernible from each other.

P2130055

I don’t know what I was expecting but I guess it was along the lines of getting the same golden sparkly wash of shimmer no matter which pan I swatched but it was nice to know that they are distinguishable and while scarily sparkly in the pan, they do swatch on to be wearable colors that can be paired together for a look.

Granted it’s a look that is going to be sparklier and shinier than your average but given the jewelry theme of this collection, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, right?

Especially when 2 of the 5 colors are all about jam packed sparkles – that very top pale beige and the starry charcoal beneath.

P2130058

P2130057

P2130059

I’ll definitely be putting a look of this palette up because it is quite gorgeous and apart from the high shimmer factor the colors are something I would reach for and use. It’s so warm and beautiful my heart can’t take it.

P2160012

P2160014

Look to come, for sure, but in the meanwhile let’s move on to the lipstick!

There are 4 lip color variations in MAC’s Bao Bao Wan collection and they each other an aspect of the lip spectrum – oranges, reds, neutrals and purples.

P2130042

Of the lot, I received the straight out orange toned lipstick in Forbidden Sunrise (S$33) and I couldn’t be happier about it because straight out oranges are usually a little rarer to find.

While they do take some thought and look contemplation to wear, as compared to a red which easily goes with many looks, it ends up being such a lovely and unique bold look that I can’t resist it.

P2130045

It’s bright, colored and fun but in a different way and mood from the usual reds and pinks. I think orange lips paired with a peach or golden hued face is going to be my new thing!

So, Forbidden Sunrise is a little different from this other straight-out orange lipstick I have in my stash. My goldfish memory is forbidding me from recalling what it is right now – I’m thinking Shu Uemura, but I can’t be sure…

P2130047

But anyway, Forbidden Sunrise is an mid-tone orange that seems to have a bit of a white base so it can appear a little stark if you’re quite deep in skintone. In my pictures it photographs a little more saturated in intensity but I do urge you to swatch it in person first incase it comes out a milky orange on your skintone.

P2160122

Though that said, it isn’t pastel either and has a nice bright almost-neon quality to it.

P2160123

It doesn’t seem to lean towards the red spectrum so it stays a true orange once on the lips and while it’s quite an acquired look I think it’s perfect when you’re looking to play up your makeup looks or want that perfect summer-ish neon orange pout.

Purple Divider

In all, I think the MAC Bao Bao Wan collection was one that really caught my attention and I wasn’t expecting that at all because firstly I wasn’t too familiar with the name of said designer they are collaborating with and secondly at a glance I guess it didn’t look like much but I take that back now.

The packaging of this collection is quite lovely and the pieces within are nice as well in terms of colors and formulation. The polishes do swatch a little runny and sheer at first but after some building up I think they’re not too bad as well.

If you’re interested in the MAC Bao Bao Wan pieces then check out where to find it below! Prices of the other products within the collection is listed within my MAC SS2015 Round Up entry over here.

MAC Holiday 2014 – My Pretty ‘Keepsakes’ Pile!

You know for sure that the holidays are rolling about when MAC launches a mega-huge-I-can’t-even-keep-track-of-it collection in a wholly different packaging-take from their usual.

Since the old days (and I really just mean early 2000 era, when I was getting into MAC), the Holiday collections were always something special from the brand as we see special palettes, beautiful (tiptoeing on tacky in some years) packaging that would appeal to a good number of people and this year is no different.

PB230094

I personally feel this year’s feminine and classic pattern with a dash of fun in the form of sparkles quite pretty and appealing to me, though I do know of some who would prefer an edgier look from MAC.

But to each their own.

PB230101

The thing about MAC’s huge, and many, collections is that I’m at a point where I don’t keep up with the brand enough to learn every color that is coming out so I got a little confused over MAC Holiday being called both Keepsakes and Objects of Affection.

Though to break it down for anyone else who is equally confused, Keepsakes refers to the hella extensive makeup collection while Objects of Affection are the pretty ‘sets’ of glosses and pigments.

PB230108

I know it still doesn’t do too much to sort out the confusion because this collection (Holiday as a whole) is huge and there are loads to check out so I would recommend you to if you feel drawn towards the shades or packaging!

It really is one of the prettier holiday offerings in awhile, I feel.

Of course, as with MAC, there are bound to be a couple of hits and misses but I’ll get to it when I talk about them individually.

PB230104

PB230105

PB230106

PB230109

For now, my work week is a little insane that’s why I’ve been rather quiet this week (as opposed to my daily spam last week) and if anything the busy-ness is giving me one of those mind block episodes again. It’s hard to write and when I try the flow of words and thoughts just feel a little bit off.

Gah. Maybe I should clear the tasks one at a time and hopefully I can think clearer (hurhur) then.

But anyway, I want to promise that things will get easier (or rather entries will get more frequent) but it’s a little early to say because next week could be hectic with me having to clear up my work before the mandatory break I have to take – long story short the inlaws are traveling so we’re home-bound and baby-sitting again.

I don’t want to start rambling about that whole temporary living situation on here so, that’s for another entry.

In the meanwhile, I do hope I’ll get to pick things up and share some necessary entries like the NAKED On the Run (in detail), with looks and also this pile of MAC stuff!

Fingers crossed!

Urban Decay’s NAKED On The Run (Plus Naked Vault *Gasp*) Coming Your Way Soon!

Oopsies…

So I guess the Surratt schedule is going to get pushed back a little because some holiday and limited edition mentions had popped up over the weekend – like literally, on my doorstep – and given these are only available for this period of time I think it’s better to give them a mention first.

I’m sure you don’t mind either, right? :D

PB230087

You might have seen the Naked On the Run palette being featured all over the place (cause it’s running all over? hurhur, not funny?) and if you’re interested to get your hands on it, you’ll be glad to know that it’s hitting our stores (or store, at Sephora ION) 5th December at 6pm sharp, retailing at S$85!

I think that’s a pretty okay price given what you get within (quite awesome for a travel product) and the palette has a good heft to it, which could translate good or bad but at least you’re not getting a light rickety palette. That’s my sentiment, at least.

PB230090

So, if its launching all the wayyyyy over at Next Friday (5th December), why am I telling you about this so far ahead of time?

Well, because if you’re a hardcore Urban Decay fan or if you’re just looking to get your hands on the extremely amazing looking Urban Decay Naked Vault then I hope you have a leave form in your hands right now (for those working office hours that is).

Even though it’s only launching after working hours, I’m sure the queue will be forming before, and here’s why:

  • the First 2 in line to purchase Urban Decay’s Naked On the Run palette will receive the Naked Vault for FREE! *zomg*
  • The Next 4 will get an option to purchase it for S$388 (when the kit is valued at S$550) – total steal I tell you!
  • The First 100 Customers will receive a deluxe sample of Urban Decay’s Anti-Aging Primer Potion.

Incase you may not know what the Naked Vault is and why I am gasping and freaking out about it, here it is – the mother of all of Urban Decay’s Naked pieces.

Behold, the Vault.

It comes with the 3 NAKED Eyeshadow palettes (that’s the full sized one, not the basics) and 3 NAKED Flushed (Cheek/bronzer duo) along with 3 NAKED Glosses and 3 24/7 Dual-Ended Glide-On Liners.

Now that’s a lot of Naked in one box!

If you’re the lucky few to get your hands on this for free or at a really good price then, good on you because this would be such an amazing way to kick start your Naked Journey or a perfect thing to split up and gift (some, because you’ll want most, right?) to girlfriends, your mom, etc!

So yes, this is amazing but let’s get back to the key item at hand, the Naked On the Run palette which in its own way is really awesome as well.

PB230057

It features 5 all-new neutral eyeshadows within as well as a new flush combo, a Limited Edition Naked gloss color and even a new and dedicated 24/7 Glide-On Eyelliner Pencil shade along with the newly released Perversion mascara.

I thought that was quite nice because given their arsenal of 24/7 Glide-On Pencils they could have just made any color a travel size and thrown it in but they really went all out to make On the Run an exclusive and Limited Edition palette in all aspects!

So, anyway, I’ll cover this palette a little more in upcoming posts, complete with a couple of quick looks thrown together with everything (as far as possible) from within the palette so stay tuned!

In the meanwhile here’s a look at a couple of other things Urban Decay had generously thrown into their press pack as well. I can’t wait to give these a go, especially the Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray and of course All-Nighter Spray. The working hours this week is no joke and I think a spray like that would be really helpful. We’ll see!

PB230030

PB230032

PB230031

PB230033

I’m going back to my topic hop-about it seems because I’ve got some MAC Holiday mentions coming right up too and I’m just going to throw them on without a care of whether I’m jumping from one brand to the other.

I know you guys can keep up, right ;)

Once more:

Urban Decay’s On the Run palette is launching at ION Sephora on 5th November (6pm sharp), retailing at S$85.

The first 2 to buy will receive the Urban Decay Naked VAULT for free, the next 4 at S$388 (worth S$550) and the First 100 will get a deluxe sample of the Anti-Aging Primer Potion.

That said, thanks for reading and if you’re going down to try your luck next Friday, good luck!

Sephora Hols 2014 – Burts Bees!

Alrightey, I’m escaping the whole cloud in my mind of what to post on my blog as we approach a ‘clog’ in the churn (too much to post I don’t know where to start!).

So… when you’re faced with something like that it’s always a good plan to deviate completely and post something else, yes?

Heh!

In this case, we’re back with more Holiday low-down from Sephora and by now most of their holiday offerings should be available in stores already so if you see something you like – RUN.

Yes, not walk but run to the store because I’m sure you wouldn’t be the only one with these gift options in mind.

Purple Divider

Okay, so phew that’s all the sets I believe!

The press release didn’t allow for text copying so I typed everything out and (disclaimer, I’m not implying or saying anything here) I noticed that the copywriting for the sets were a little off. At least to me. In the sense that some sentences didn’t quite flow right and some parts were rather abrupt in description so… if you’re reading, that’s just something to note.

Not that the text is something a good number of you guys read anyway, right?

I know you just scroll by and look at pictures!

But properly summing it up, I think the sets that Burts Bees are offering are really cute and practical without dwelling too much into the indulgent aspect of body maintenance such that the products are too precious to use or the sets too expensive to buy.

Everything is reasonably priced, highly usable and so practical.

With that said, I’m going to sign off and nurse my energy-zapped brain. For some reason I’ve been feeling so sleepy, drowsy and tired of late and I swear I’m not keeping any late nights here. I’m sleeping as per usual (I believe), unless my body switches to a different sleep cycle once I’m out…

But I’ve just been feeling so sluggish and it seems like a cup of coffee a day no longer does the trick. Gah.

Burts Bees Holiday Sets are available from 6th November at Sephora Singapore stores island-wide!

Sephora Hols 2014 – Sephora (The House Brand)!

Okie dokes.

So we took a bit of a break from the Sephora Holiday mentions to spam up some Vice but now it’s time to resume our program on this, especially when most of the collections will be hitting stores 6th November!

Don’t forget to mark that date down if you’re thinking to swing by Sephora to pick up some festive gifts – almost all brands are rolling out their X’mas goodies then!

For today at least, I’m going to be talking about some stuff from Sephora’s house brand (but of course).

While yes Sephora stocks up a mighty mean list of brands to shop from, let’s not forget that the house brand has some pretty good offerings as well, especially where the seasonal range is concerned.

What’s more most things are reasonably priced too so it’s a a good one stop shop if you’re doing a secret santa or looking for some stocking stuffers!

Sephora Hols 2014 – Marc Jacobs

So… I drafted this about sometime last week while I was coughing and sneezing my brains out, I’m better now but here’s a sentiment of how I felt about a week ago, along with some gorgeous holiday promo pics, heh!

Hey all!

It seems I’ve caught the flu bug that’s been circulating awhile of late so my mind’s in a bit of a haze and I’m close to sputtering nonsensical rambles so… with that let me take this time to put up a generic press post about some Holiday pieces from Marc Jacobs!

A brand still relatively new to us – like a little baby toddling about our shores! – it’s highly exciting to see what they will put out for their very first Holiday here and I guess I can say that Marc Jacobs doesn’t disappoint.

Of course, as expected, you should have a few dollars ready when you’re spying any of these but if anything, Marc Jacobs’ makeup line is almost always on point in color and also texture / finish so you can expect to get your money’s worth!

That wraps up the holiday line-up from Marc Jacobs, coming to us at Sephora. From what I understand, a lot of the Marc Jacobs holiday pieces are fairly exclusive to Sephora ION and… to date I believe that the full Marc Jacobs line up is still mainly available at Sephora ION, right am I?

Eitherways, pop by Sephora ION – the HQ of all Sephoras it seems – and you can’t go wrong!

If you ask me… I think the Kiss Pop Collectors Set is to die for but at a pricetag of S$350, it does seem like a huge splurge even though when averaged out, it sounds a whole lot more reasonable at about S$38 a Pop (forreal pop here) and you get the lacquered box thrown in too.

Pretty good deal, yes? Ha!

And the Sky-Liner set is another really pretty and nice piece worth checking out too as these pencils swatched really nicely on and if you have ever wanted to get your hands on some of their Eye Crayons, this is the best time / way to!

So tell me, are you eyeing any pieces from Marc Jacobs’s Holiday 2014 collection?

Marc Jacobs Holiday collection will launch 6 November 2014 (mainly) at Sephora ION.

Sephora Hols 2014 – Tarte Cosmetics!

Kicking off the Sephora Holiday series, here’s something a little girly, a little demure, a touch whimsical along with a whole lot of pretty!

I had a mind to ramble a little about collection info and things like that but for the most part I know that a good number of you care to read this holiday series just for the gorgeous press pictures and information so I’ve decided to save my words and cut to the chase.

Because in situations like this, you’re really not here to read what I have to say. Heh!

So, pic and basic info spam, here we go! Entries as such are so handy during busy periods (such as now) because it’s still news but it doesn’t require too much time from my end – hope you don’t mind the whole press release copy paste thing which I don’t normally do.

After all, it is official information and if anything I’ll share personal thoughts on pieces (I have on hand or looking to purchase) once I get a chance!

Just a quick introduction…

You’ll see that Tarte’s 2014 Holiday offering is very soft, pretty, featuring splashes of gold and baroque swirls / prints.

The folks over at Tarte explained to me, during the Sephora Holiday Preview, that this collection is about bringing Paris to you. The air of it, the touch of whimsy, class and sophistication along with keeping it beautifully girly. I think it is absolutely adorable and I dare say one of Tarte’s prettiest collections to date!

Hello sweet dreamers! Give the gift of a fantasy collection featuring tarte’s brightest in skincare and iconic cheek stain that’s sure to make anyone’s dreams come true!

While this is all there is to Tarte’s Holiday 2014 collection, I think it really is more than enough to choose from if you have friends who are crazy over Tarte or would love a touch of whimsy to their boudoir.

Eitherways, what makes these Tarte Holiday offerings exceptionally attractive for gifting is their low price points. I did a double take when I found out that exclusive and also humungo Travel Set & Bag is only priced at S$79! I think that is a very fair price given what it could be in this day and age’s makeup prices – hello S$350 Marc Jacobs Lip set….

But yes, these are absolutely darling to look at, to gift and I’m sure to use as well.

Tarte’s Holiday Collection will launch in Sephora at 6th November 2014

Urban Decay IN DA HAUS!

Pardon my excitement but…. LOOK AT THIS:

Tell me that the sight of all these pretties waiting and calling out to you to play with them does not excite you?

I’ll try my very best to give them an individual feature (followed by looks and all) really really soon. As soon as I can, I promise. I can’t wait to dig my brush into those smooth pans and slap those shadows on!

I’m especially thrilled with NAKED 2 Basics because, hello there you cool cool taupe-y browns, you’re totally right up my alley~

So anyway, before I get carried away, I just wanted to flag this up – Urban Decay swatches, mentions and hopefully a spam of it all will be coming to your inboxes (if you’re subscribed to me) or blog feeds real soon.

As I had predicted (which didn’t require much skill really) this week is going to be a tough one and time is going to be tight once more. All this busy-ness while I have so so much to share. Gosh, I wish we had more hours in the day or… less hours to work in a day, ha! Eitherways, hang tight and I’ll keep this spot alive and buzzing with holiday / pampering (because you gotta indulge before the parties!) news as much as I can!

Till then, thank you for reading! ♥

First Look: Shupette – Shu Uemura x Karl Lagerfeld (Again!) Holiday Collection 2014

I can almost envision the amount of work piling up for the whole of next week so while I still have a tad bit of breathing space, I might as well throw this mention up first!

After all, this is a really quick look which, if anything, may not be the most informative in terms of how the colors portray, how the items swatch and all but if you’re so smittened with the Shupette collection that you don’t mind seeing 90123989324 photos of the items then… here you go!

This is really a hit and run post given these images are fresh from a couple nights ago and fresh from the phone. Save for a bit of color editing because the lighting was quite horrid but, we make do with what we have, yes?

I didn’t bother with swatches at the cozy event we had with Zee and Fuan of Shu Uemura because lighting conditions were quite blah but I did swatch some pieces, for the feel of the product, and while they carry through with the soft effortless touch of color and whisper of sheen / shimmer, the shadows and creams are nice and smooth to the touch.

Easy to blend, soft and natural pigmentation with easy color build up – great for a fresh faced look especially since it is likely that this collection is aimed towards a younger demographic given the cutesy imagery and packaging.

Not to say the mature ladies cannot indulge in their cat-woman feels with this! Especially with the bolder, but still fairly wearable, lip colors within the lip bons bons or Shupette Has It All Palette.

Okay, enough talk, here’s the lovely makeup mess we had the joy to play with that night!

It’s quite a rapid picture spam so… just scroll on, check the names / prices (which will be captions) and, enjoy! I’ll try to skip out on text from here on.

One focal point of this collection, Shupette / Choupette the cat aside, would be the emphasize on her sapphire blue eyes which gets played up with the packaging of this collection.

If you take a closer look, her eyes (in the illustration) flash a beautiful metallic blue when it hits the light. Otherwise, her eyes are also made the star in the super adorable furry pouch that comes with the Shupette Has It All Eye and Lip palette.

I’ll be back with more information and of course swatches of the items I have on hand even though there are loads of in-depth mentions, swatches and all online already given how highly anticipated this collection is.

This collection is just calling out to my inner crazy cat lady (I lurrrrrrve cats. LOVE) and the stylized illustration of Shupette is absolutely darling. Though the kitty cat herself seems a lot less wide-eyed and innocent and a lot more grumpy / bratty but… she is a diva who eats on the table with Karl Lagerfeld so, what can we say, heh!

If you want to get your hands on some Shupette, here are the details of where to find her and when!

Shupette will be launching 24th October at Shu Uemura ION and 1st November island-wide

I can’t wait to get swatchin’ with the little bits of Shupette I have on hand!
