On My Nails: A Grape (And Also Very Great) Affair – The Body Shop Color Crush™ Nails

Wow, just… wow!

I didn’t expect to feel this strongly and be this attracted to a polish from The Body Shop’s Color Crush series. No offense really, but remember my awry first impression? Which was subsequently salvaged… but still!

I cannot stop singing about how beautiful this purple is, in my books at least.

You see, where nail colors are concerned, purples are one of my absolute favorites. Be it a pastel purple, a dark moody one or even the loud and pink-toned magentas that wear well for a couple days before you get sick of how vibrant it is.

Of course I’m open to all sorts of other colors too as long as it isn’t orange but yes, purple would grab my attention first.

I assumed that I had seen (most of) it all when it came to this color that I always gravitate towards but this purple right here, is so familiar yet so new to me at the same time.

It’s vibrant, but pale, bright but pastel, so perfect!

IMG_4282

It’s a creamy purple that is part bright, somewhat midtone yet a little pastel all at the same time. I really can’t get enough of it and I’ve had this on for quite a good period of time partly because it lasted really well, through almost 3 weeks of wear, and also because I really liked the shade and couldn’t bear to remove it.

It was only when the growth / new nail portion finally got to me that I figured enough is enough and moved on to other colors.

It’s beautiful, really.

IMG_4285

Unlike the peachy shade earlier, I did bother to throw on a topcoat over this because it seemed like it needed a bit of that for a glossier shine.

IMG_4294

It’s fine without and if you’re only wearing it for a couple of days at most it could probably live the wear but, why would you only wear a gorgeous shade like this for only a couple of days, right?

Oh yes, I believe in my excitement I may have forgotten to mention that this shade is called A Grape Affair (french name: Lilas Mauve). I feel that in the case of this polish, I prefer the French version of its name because A Grape Affair sounds very… OPI to me, somehow.

No?

I’m pretty sure they have a purple by that name actually (inner voice: Yes they do).

A couple of days into the wear of above-mentioned manicure, I received a press kit from MAC and it contained a lovely pale pink shimmery number (from their Holiday collection) and much as shimmers are pretty to wear, I know well enough the pain it ensues upon removal so I decided to layer it over A Grape Affair, on one nail to serve as an accent nail.

I think it’s quite pretty and lovely how the colors work together.

The MAC Nailpolish (Just Jewels) turned out more opaque than I had expected – I was thinking sparse glitter / shimmer in a largely transparent base – and I did think it was a beautiful color to wear. I was mildly tempted to do a full manicure with it but… as I had said, it was a bit of a pain to remove even on one nail so I’m glad I spared myself the pain.

Alrightey, I think I’ve rambled enough about my love for this beautiful purple and the incidentally lovely combination that I chanced upon thanks to a very timely press kit.

To turn things back to The Body Shop, I think their colored offerings are actually quite pretty both in tone and textures so should you be looking for a cream colored polish (say this purple, or teal, or perhaps a seafoam green), do check The Body Shop’s Color Crush Nail Polishes out!

To give MAC some mention, this polish is also now out at their counters and is Limited Edition so if a sweet and shimmery candy jewelled nail polish ‘topcoat’ is what you’re after, you had best head down!

On My Nails: Just Peachy (The Body Shop Color Crush™ Nails)

Hello!

So it’s back to the nail entries though I’ve been (fairly) religiously painting my talons and keeping them nice and colored, I’ve been slacking a little on telling you what I have on them.

Perhaps slacking isn’t the right word, it’s more of being distracted by the many other things to say but before these get lost in the sea of pending entries, let’s have a look again at The Body Shop’s Color Crush™ Nail Polishes that I have on hand, shall we?

So… the decision to paint this orange hued shade was because I was about to remove my nail colors and snip my nails down but figured… since they’re at this length already why not swatch another shade first before removing it all.

The reason why I’m not so hyped about keeping this shade on (or was not, at least) is because of my aversion to wearing orange on the nails. Or in this case, vermillion.

Or also called ‘Just Peachy‘, though I’ll say it leans more red-orange than peach but whatever floats your Color Crush boat.

Don’t mind the messy painting, remember my plan was slap on, snap and then remove. Heh!

IMG_4028

And I only have one thing to say after swatching this…

You know how in situations where you assume something for the whole batch due to the first little bugger you test yet that assumption turns out wrong because the first test subject is actually a bit of a dud?

Yeah, well, that’s what happened here because I don’t know if this is the same range from The Body Shop but Just Peachy swatched… well, just peachy! It was nice and opaque, shiny and creamy and I could even skip a topcoat with this brilliant bright orange.

Did I just put brilliant and orange together while describing a nail color?

Yes I think I did.

I usually can’t deal with oranges, hence the initial thought, but Just Peachy actually looks nice on and doesn’t do that odd orange polish thing of making my skin appear yellow and sickly.

IMG_4032

Long story short, call me impressed!

Now I can’t wait to go on and swatch the rest of the shades, which really are just 2 more shades – one a pastel purple (totally my color~) and the other is a staple black.

Would you believe I don’t have a black in my stash? At least I don’t have one that isn’t gloopy or dried up so… yes, I’ll save that ramble for another entry.

On My Nails: Meet Me At Dusk (The Body Shop Color Crush™ Nails)

OHAI… Sorry to have been neglecting you again, nail entries.

Funny thing is now that I’ve been painting my nails and keeping them painted once more, I have all these pictures of nail posts to do but no intention of doing them. Oops!

But okay, I’ll get right to it.

Nail entries are super quick anyway, right?

In today’s post, I have featured a color from The Body Shop’s new line up of nail polishes – the Color Crush™ Nails.

I was sent a small bag of them with a couple of shades to choose from but I felt in the mood for some nudes so I popped Meet Me at Dusk on.

p.s. I’ve noticed these polishes have alternate names in french and this one is also called Rose Rendez Vous

Meet Me At Dusk… Nude shade… Cheeky~

So anyway, here’s the shade done in 2 coats and snapped when semi-wet / drying.

The Body Shop was also kind enough to include a top-coat (which supposedly works as a base coat too, interesting) which I think was a really good call because these Color Crush™ shades really pop and look much better once you have a glossy shine over them.

IMG_3414

IMG_3416

On their own, they seem to be a little dull, not as plush and lack a little something but the topcoat really brings this to its full potential.

IMG_3417

IMG_3427

I don’t suppose you have to use a The Body Shop topcoat but if you’re a sucker for everything being matchy, then why not right? They’re only S$12.90 a pop!

IMG_3429

IMG_3430

So that’s that for my first introduction to The Body Shop’s Color Crush Nail Polishes, starting with a very simple and safe nude shade. I’ve got a couple of other shades on hand ranging from purples, to bright vermillion (as they call it) and black so… those will be up real soon!

As soon as I can paint them that is, which I don’t assume is too long given how frequently I’m changing up my polish shades right now.
