Of Site Maintenance and Make Up (Store) Piles!

Heyo everyone!

Before anyone thinks that I am abandoning this shiny new space this soon, fret not because I haven’t and I wouldn’t!

Or rather, as much as I can afford / help it, I wouldn’t want to be silent for too long on here because I have so so much to share and am buzzing with this newfound excitement to blogging.

I guess it does help to have a new layout, a spruced up and pretty site plus much better facilities to work with.

I feel inspired to blog once more!

But anyway, to account for the radio silence over the week and some oddity you may have noticed in your email or perhaps Blog Feed (like that generic ‘Hello World’ article?), it is because I finally got the help of some staff over at WordPress to fix my import issues.

I didn’t post much because this maintenance involved wiping the site of its existing content so to help with restoring it once the wipe is done, the lesser posts I have to replace, the better, yes?

While I had gone ahead and done an official ‘YAY NEW BLOG’ entry awhile back, there were a couple of kinks and hiccups that I didn’t quite smooth out and I wasn’t comfortable just waiting about this long for them to be fixed first.

The wordpress end of things were taking awhile to get back as well so a part of me did think that I would never get it fixed, hence the ‘early’ launch I suppose… I tried to move on from that and be enthusiastic about the whole New Slate thing though in truth I did want some entries on here; the more recent entries from this year at least.

Long story short, finally that has been sorted and I do have a wee bit of history on this shiny new space! At least this history allows more categories to show up, more tags to be present and of course, more related posts to be prompted at the end of every entry.

Yay to all that!

[Authors Note: My darn browser crashed just as I was typing that last sentence and it feels so good to be able to restart everything and still have this whole chunk that I had written! I would have gone bat-shit (excuse mah language) if this was done on Onsugar cause I would have lost everything…]

So anyway!

After all that Site Maintenence talk, I guess… I should just rejoice and round this post up with a Make Up (Store) pile! I have so so much to share from this generous and bubbly brand (because the brand person is so exuberant, hence the description) and I haven’t gotten around to it so a whole mountain is forming right now.

A Spring, Summer and Fall mountain, at that!

Ooops…

So yes… lots to talk about, lots to clear and now with everything set straight – no hiccups and glitches anymore backend – and this new space 100% to my liking, I can’t wait to power on with more makeup rambling!

Once again, if you haven’t followed me on Bloglovin’, go ahead and do so if you have an account! I have set this site’s feed such that you can read the blog from the Bloglovin’ mobile app, without having to ‘open original site’.

If you don’t get what I mean, get on Bloglovin’, follow me, get the mobile app and you will see!

Thank you for reading and I’ll catch you guys real soon!

pssst, notice the Haute Files image in the sidebar? That’s to come real soon!

Dior Summer 2014 – 5 Couleur in Atlantique (Swatches)

Right… what did I tell you about my entries often being mighty late?

Well, I do have a bit of an apology to make with regards to the delay of this entry. Not for me being too tied up to write it, which is also a reason but that is so expected of that I probably don’t have to apologize for it, ha.

Instead, the reason (or rather one of the reasons) I took my time with this (work aside) is that I wasn’t expecting much of it.

Sad but true, Dior’s 5 Couleur palettes have been getting more disappointing by the collection and while I will say that Golden Sand from the holiday pieces weren’t too bad, it wasn’t stellar either.

So perhaps I expected the same ‘meh’-ness to this but I was quite wrong…

Though it is a little late for me to be announcing this now and I can only hope that everyone may have assumed the same and gave this a miss thus leaving it still in stock at the counters? Heh.

The dressier and more color-packed variant in Dior’s 2014 Transatlantique Summer collection, Atlantique has strong and varying tones of beautiful blues along with a smooth medium-brown to help tone it all down. As much as it is able to, that is.

At a glance I will say this palette scares me, only because I haven’t done prominently colored or smokey eye looks in a long while, ever since I switched over to embracing glasses.

Though part of me is intigued with the combination and I would likely wear this is in the most subtle of ways, not doing enough justice to the gorgeous hues of blues but I will try and give you my take on this beauty.

One of the reasons I have been facing continual disappointments with Dior’s recent 5 Couleur releases is because of the pigmentation and texture that the shadows carry.

Given I wasn’t expecting full on intense swipes with them, the shadows are usually a little gritty or generally sheer hence making them seem very similar when swatched.

Though this is where Atlantique seems to have excelled and redeemed the reputation of 5 Couleurs a little because while the colors may be something I wouldn’t shout about (blue and me… hmm), the texture alone excites me.

Seeing them swatched along side each other, it’s almost as if they are beckoning me to create a look, just so I can see for myself how beautifully they would blend and work with each other.

Every color swatches distinctively and smoothly, with great pigmentation (by Dior’s standards that is).

I can’t even find a fault with the texture even if I wanted to because they are all quite lovely. From the icy translucent shimmer (which felt pretty smooth and not gritty) to the pearlescent mid-tone blue and even the darkened jewel-tone sapphire.

Even a color like that seafoam green, which can come off chalky, was smooth and not chalky once blended.

Call me impressed!

So yes, I know it’s a little late to rave if they happen to be sold out by now (I wouldn’t be surprised, it’s been out awhile) and my bad for picking up on this so late.

If for some reason these are still available, I highly recommend you to pick them up (though prices have been… well, pricey of late) becauase it is one of the better 5 Couleurs I have seen in awhile.

I’ll try to do up an eye look soon once I’ve mustered the courage to slap blue on my eyes once more. And to think I used to plop this on and head out, no problemo!

Dior’s 5 Couleur in Atlantique retails for S$102 and is Limited Edition – Part of the Transatlantiq Summer collection

Summer Blues – Across the Board With Brands this Summer!

You know Summer is here when the ocean of makeup is painted a bright and brilliant canvas of blues from the deep dark tones to lovely sea-foam, baby blue, you name it!

Any sort of blue be it purple-infused, green-infused, so long as it’s blue, it’s a perfect fit for Summer.

While I used to favor the occassional smack of blue on the lids, I think I have become a lot more conservative (aka neutral) and less smokey with my eyelooks these days and thus the days of blue shadows were a little long past.

Though blue is still a gorgeous color I would like in an accent liner, or most definitely in a nail polish.

If you are a fan of blues be it in the form of polish, on your lids or perhaps the whole get-up, then this Summer is looking perfectly blue-sy for you!

Here are some blues that are rolling out from varying brands this Summer:

I’ve saved the best for last and they are these stunning YSL La Lacque Coutures. I love the look of both of them, one so cheeky and bright and the other so perfect for night (see, I rhymed there…).

The matching Eye Pencils to go with are beautiful too, great for when you need a lift to your look.

I’m sure there are more blue pieces lurking about in Summer and then again Blue isn’t a color new to Summer since it signifies all things nautical, which brings to mind Sun, Sand, Sea and Summer!

Though for some reason the offering of blues this time around seem especially rich, vibrant and bold. Or it could just be me paying more attention this time around, for some reason.

Either ways, are Summer Collex your kinda thing? Or do you prefer the deep dark and sooty hues of Fall?

I personally can’t decide myself, I like… a little of every season? Heh!

Urban Decay Turning Up the Brights This Summer!

Urban Decay is a brand I don’t mention prominently on here but is a brand I have encounters with since my youtube-days. It’s the UDPP yo!

I don’t have a lot from the brand, I’ll admit, but I have dabbled in bits and pieces and have loved everything that I have tried thus far. While my hopes would be to eventually immerse myself in all that wonderful UD-goodness, I am happy to take it one little step at a time.

Though if you are an Urban Decay addict and loooove the loud pow-wow colors that defines this edgy urban (hurhur) brand, then you’ve got a little treat heading your way this Summer!

Amping up the levels of pigmentation this Summer, Urban Decay knows no limits with bold bright splashes of color along with shimmery statement glitter.

Summer is the time for brands to embrace color and put their best foot forward in the world of vibrance but I think Urban Decay just knocked everyone (and their eyeshadow palettes) out of the water with their new Electric Eyeshadow Palette.

Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette

Obviously this palette is something that I will admire from a distance and applaud those who dare venture into the little pow-wow wells with an eyeshadow brush.

It’s beautiful but certainly not for me… I can’t werk a lime green and stark purple-blue.

The next item still isn’t really my cup of tea but if you are a loose pigment lover then you might be pleased with the new Heavy Metal offerings that Urban Decay has.

Heavy Metal Loose Glitter

If being neon-bright isn’t enough, these Heavy Metal Loose Glitters will do a good job of blinging your look up with a jewel-encrusted finish.

Paired with Urban Decay’s very own Bondage Weightless Makeup Adhesive, these little babies will have you (or rather your lids) shimmering all night long!

Now, for things that sit a little better in my camp, aka things are are perhaps a little yawn but far more practical, we have some new eye-rimming alternatives with:

  • Ink For Eyes Waterproof Precision Pen – liquid liner, yippee
  • Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner – excites!
  • All Night Eyeliner – retractable, great for carrying out
  • 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Pencil in Black Velvet – love the name, but not sure how this differs from Perversion…

I’m not certain if the slanted-liner brush comes with the Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Cream Eyeliner or is merely promoted with but those two items are things I am eager to check out once this reaches our shores – Urban Decay is available at all Sephora Singapore stores.

I haven’t revisited cream / pot liners in a while and this looks to be a good time to do so!

Thanks for reading! Are you looking forward to any of these items?

p.s. I’ll admit I’m really just a sucker for how cute the pot looks but I don’t think I’m expecting anything less of Urban Decay either!
