YSL Rouge Voluptes & Shines Look Book!

Hello everyone!

So the wheels are really reaaaally picking up this week at work and it doesn’t help that I didn’t manage time to schedule these lip spam entries ahead of time so fingers crossed I manage to get all the lip Look Books I have in mind up on time!

The saving grace is that these entries are a lot more visual since most of what has to be said about the product has already been mentioned in my YSL Lip Lowdown / Breakdown post (read if you haven’t!) but I’ll still revisit a couple of points within these posts, just because.

Rouge Voluptes

So, firstly, the Rouge Voluptes.

P6210123

I can’t speak for all but I think a good number of people I know first set foot into YSL’s Lip Realm via the Rouge Voluptes because these babies are absolutely beautiful in both packaging and also formulation.

Putting aside my personal prejudice and preferences, I will admit that the creamy, smooth and opaquely pigmented finish of these is largely alluring to many.

P6210133

It ticks all the right boxes and comes with the fruity and fun signature YSL watermelon scent to boot but for some reason, I’ve just not taken to the shades that I’ve tried and while I still give them love and use from time to time, it’s just not my #1, #2 or even #3 option or go-to.

It’s one of those ‘once in awhile’ indulgences where I use them when I have a spare amount of time because I feel the lighter and more pastel hued shades I have do take a bit of working in to look proper and good but once all settled and set on the lips, I get reminded again of what I do still reach for them. Once in awhile.

But anyway, that’s just me, as I have said. The Rouge Voluptes are typically highly rated and reached for by many so it could be a hit or miss thing and it’s a tad of a miss with me so don’t let me judgement affect yours too much and check them out in person to get a feel and swatch!

One thing’s for certain, the lipstick tube really is super loveeee.

Rouge Volupte Shines

Where the Shines are concerned, I have a bit of a 180 degree moment with them because while the Rouge Voluptes don’t sit very well with me all the time (hurhur, for realz), the Shines on the other hand win me over easily.

The formula has a little more translucence to it, paired with an intense yet still mildly natural and glossy finish, it’s quite perfect for days you want a kick of color but without the very ‘made up’ factor that a red lip, violet lip or pink lip usually comes with.

Like a casual color kicker, somewhat.

P6210156

That’s if you can consider these casual because while they are in my books it could still be rather intense for more neutral natural loving people but if you’re looking to take baby steps to the world of intense lip color then the Shines are your best bet!

While scary in the tube, Fuchsia in Rage is actually not that intimidating a shade once worn on. It’s still got the purple tinge to it that makes it stand out and a little unique but there’s enough pink and raspberry hues within to make it tiptoe into the rather wearable zone at the same time.

Strange enough it’s a pink I’ve been reaching for quite often on casual lip days when I can’t decide if I want to wear pink or be a little ‘bold’ / dressy with my lip color.

So there you go!

Not too rambly nor too wordy, I hope!

I’m doing my best to keep this (and the upcoming Look Book mentions) brief and relatively text-free, allowing the images to do most of the talking because that’s the point of more visual posts, yes?

Hope the option of showcasing a lip close up for texture and color representation as well as a full face shot for an idea of how the lip colors look from a ‘normal’ distance and how it all ties in with a look is helpful!

That’s would be it from me with regards to the Rouge Voluptes, coming up next would be the Pur Couture (& and The MATS) so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading!
